Shamanic journeying is a form of meditation that induces a light trance, in which state it’s possible to “journey” to a non-ordinary reality — basically, to induce a slightly altered state. It’s a primary practice for a lot of shamanic practitioners and there are various methods for it in different cultures. Since I’ve been studying and practicing shamanic healing for fourteen years, I’ve been journeying a lot in different contexts and environments.

To my surprise, Mother Mary showed up in one of my journeys 2010 or so, and then in many more that followed. It was surprising because I always assumed she only talked with Catholics, but the fact that I’m not Christian seemed to be part of the point of her visits: she’s here for everyone, unconfined by churches or stained glass or Bible stories, and available even for pagans and heathens like me.

Over the years that I’ve met with her in journeys, she’s became more and more vivid (or I became more and more receptive — probably some of both). Eventually, about four years ago, she asked me to take these encounters with her public and pass along the messages that she shared.

Honestly, my first thought was that everyone would think I should be medicated. But since “crazy” is a time-worn slander used to discredit anything unusual, particularly if it comes from a woman, I let that one go.
